A Glimpse into History
The National Museum of Ratnapura, inaugurated on May 13, 1988, is one of Sri Lanka’s prominent national museums. Situated in Ratnapura, the museum is housed in the historic “Ehelepola Walauwa,” once the residence of Ehelepola Nilame. He served as the 1st Adigar (1811-1814) and the Disawe (local Governor) of Ratnapura under King Sri Vikrama Rajasinha, the last monarch of Sri Lanka’s Kingdom of Kandy. This museum offers visitors a deep dive into the cultural and historical treasures of the region.
